MHIENG, together with Kansai Electric Power Co., have already established and commercialized its own post combustion CO₂ capture technology, so called KM-CDR Process™.
KM-CDR Process™ , with own developed unique amine solvent (KS-1™), has been adopted for thirteen (13) commercial plants all over the world (as of Feb. 2019), which has several outstanding features as follows;
Exhaust gas containing CO₂ is cooled in an exhaust gas cooling tower, then exposed in the absorption tower to alkaline KS-1™ absorbent liquid, which absorbs the CO₂ in the exhaust gas. Absorbent liquid containing a high concentration of CO₂ is sent to the regeneration tower, where it is heated with steam to release and regenerate the CO₂. The regenerated absorption liquid is returned to the absorption tower, where it is reused. This process can recover more than 90% of the CO₂ contained in the target gas (with a purity of more than 99.9% by volume), and also reduces steam consumption thanks to our original energy-saving regeneration system.
There are many different applications for CO₂, but Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) in particular has gained attention as a technology that can simultaneously help prevent global warming while increasing the production of crude oil, by means of CO₂ storage.
This approach is used to recover CO₂ exhausted from power plants and factories and send it to oil fields by pipeline, etc., inject the CO₂ into the oil-bearing layer of the oil field, and recover crude oil left underground. This dramatically increases the recovery rate of crude oil, only 20% to 30% of which can be recovered conventionally.
Furthermore, the compressed CO₂ can be stored in the ground as is, thus significantly helping to prevent global warming.
